As the centre continues to grow, new opportunities continue to arise. Recently, William Nkhunga joined the team at Kusamala. Reigning from Dowa district, trained in Agriculture and natural resource management at the Natural Resources College (NRC), William joins us as Tree nursery and Medicinal garden Manager. The tree nursery and medicinal garden are vital components of our demonstration, as the tree nursery is used for training, afforestation and income generation and the medicinal garden as a training tool for natural medicines.
William joins Kusamala with expertise in agriculture and natural resource management. He has been involved in promoting agroforestry, interpreting agricultural extension policies to farmers, demonstrating innovations and technologies, conducting farmer club trainings, formulating and implementing extension annual work plans with traditional leaders, documenting sharing case studies, awareness campaigns as well as research among other duties.
We are confident that William will strengthen the current systems in our
demonstrations as well as help uplifting them to greater heights. In his capacity, he will champion in creating a well coordinated business plan for the nursery and the medicinal garden along with other demonstrations, expanding the current demonstrations, leading workshops related to the medicinal garden and the tree nursery. Additionally, William will use his vast experience in training to mentor and direct interns from diverse cultures and different countries.
Interestingly, William has already changed the face of the tree nursery and it really looks good. He has implemented new ways for sowing seeds other then just using tubes and ha has built an impressive grafting table. We’re excited to welcome William to the team and can’t wait to see what else he has planned!
