Through the Dan Church Aid (DCA) project, Mainstreaming Climate-Smart Agriculture Schemes for Sustainable Local Business Development in Malawi, Kusamala conducted a 3-Day Training of Trainer workshop on Permaculture from the 18th to 20th December. The training, which involved introducing the participants to Permaculture principles and 
designs, drew 20 participants from Nsanje, Thyolo and Mzimba where our partners, Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) and Christian Service Commission (CSC), are partly implementing the project.
Luwayo Bizwick, William Nkhunga and Eston Mgala facilitated the workshop and it was a great success. After the training all the participants were given certificate which increased the joy and the confidence among them. Having been trained, it is expected of the participants to train other smallholder farmers in their respective communities to adopt climate smart agriculture as a low cost farming model that can drastically reduce their vulnerability to food and nutritional insecurity through improved agricultural productivity.
The project is being implemented with funding from Nordic Environment Finance Cooperation (NCF), and Dan Church Aid (DCA) is implementing the project in partnership with Kusamala, CARD, and CSC. The main role of Kusamala in this project is to provide technical advice mainly in Climate Smart Agriculture technologies and support implementing partners through trainings and extension services
The project aims to empower vulnerable communities in Malawi to adapt to the impacts of climate change through sustainable businesses in solar irrigation schemes and mitigate climate change through climate smart agriculture. The project is directly targeting 15,000 and indirectly 75,000 farming households in the targeted districts that are highly vulnerable to the adverse impacts of climate change and extreme weather events with the aim of reducing their vulnerability to the impacts of climate change
