On 4th September 9 participants graduated our first Sustainable Earth Building Course. Facilitator Wilhelm Morkel covered the main topics of building with cob, rammed earth and dry stone wall. Guest lecturer Chris Rollins contributed a thorough series on CEBs with an assortment of machines on site to demonstrate the various techniques.
Everyone had a chance to get their hands dirty and gain experience in the various topics covered and some of us got very dirty indeed!
A sound theoretical knowledge base was also imparted – soil and materials selection, the physics of natural earth building, flooring, roofing, arches and domes, doors and windows, structural integrity, and so on.
A great time was had by all, including us! We expect our kitchen to be complete within the week, so come see us soon and there may just be a pizza or a bun baking in there!
