We are in the process of setting up a drip irrigation system into our commercial garden. With support from The MASHAV: Israel’s Agency for International Development (Under the National Coordinator for Presidential Initiative on Poverty and Hunger Reduction in Malawi) we have managed to mount up a 1000 litre tank of water at Kusamala.IMG01024-20140217-1453

Today it is more important than ever to use water resources wisely and to irrigate intelligently.  Consequently, here at Kusamala we have turned to drip irrigation and are anticipating to enjoy improved profitability by increasing crop yield and quality while at the same time reducing costs from water, energy, labour, and water runoff.

Matt Frye and William Nkhunga have been working tirelessly to make sure that this irrigation kit is properly installed. We believe this will add value to our demonstration and will play a complementary role to one of our project titled “mainstreaming climate smart agriculture in solar irrigation schemes for sustainable local business development in Malawi”. However, it is also playing a vital role in helping us achieve one of our goals in our Climate Smart Agriculture project for rural smallholders of becoming a Centre for Excellency in climate smart agriculture.
